Discover Europe's first extensive retrospective of the artist Marisol at the Kunsthaus Zurich. Maria Sol Escobar (1930–2016), better known as Marisol, was a prominent figure in the New York art scene of the 1960s. Her wooden sculptures, often life-sized, combine everyday objects with elements of pop culture, Dada and folk art, creating a unique, often satirical figurative language.
The exhibition features key pieces from all of Marisol's artistic periods, demonstrating how she combines pop art, satire and self-presentation into a unique artistic stance. Her work lies between American pop art and European new realism, without being clearly tied to any direction. Particularly interesting is how Marisol explores social roles, self-portraits and dramatizations that transform her sculptures into
multi-layered narratives.

The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in Salzburg. It was realized in close collaboration with the Marisol Estate at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.
